For those looking for an easy health upgrade, a nutritionist says swapping sugar in teas and coffees for a simple kitchen staple could help prevent dreaded ‘energy crashes’. With more people rethinking their daily habits in favour of smarter, more nourishing choices, Manuka honey is quickly becoming a go-to alternative for those wanting natural sweetness with added wellness benefits.

Nutritional Therapist Liliana Trukawka emphasises that there is a clear difference between sugar and honey. She explains: “While both honey and sugar contain natural sugars, honey offers far more than sweetness.

“Unlike refined sugar, honey contains trace vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health. It also has a lower glycaemic index than sugar, meaning it releases energy more steadily rather than causing sharp spikes and crashes.

“In the case of Manuka honey, there’s the added bonus of antibacterial properties and immune-supporting activity thanks to its unique compound MGO (methylglyoxal).” Melora’s premium Manuka honeys are packed with antioxidants and the unique antibacterial compound MGO, making them an appealing option for anyone wanting to support immunity or enjoy a steadier release of energy throughout the day.

Melora’s currently running a Black Friday sale, including 65% off the Manuka Honey, meaning it’s now £10, and 46% off the Manuka & Blueberry Squeeze, now £8, with the promotions available until December 2. First up is the Manuka Honey 300+ MGO (250g) that features benefits from New Zealand’s native Manuka flowers.

This is a premium, high potency honey produced and packed in New Zealand, meeting strict government guidelines for authenticity, the brand says. Known for its rich texture and distinctive flavour, this luxurious honey is celebrated for its versatility. To use it, shoppers can enjoy it straight off the spoon for a quick wellness lift or stir it into hot lemon and other drinks for soothing comfort.

The Manuka Honey Squeeze Bottle 70+MGO Blueberry combines authentic Manuka honey with pure New Zealand Wildflower honey and natural blueberry extract, creating a deliciously vibrant fruit burst flavour. The result is a smooth, antioxidant-rich honey with a naturally sweet, slightly tangy blueberry twist, which is ideal for those who want a healthier alternative to refined sugar without compromising on taste.

For an alternative option, Holland and Barrett and also has the New Zealand Clover Honey (225g) for £5. This has a sweet, fragrant taste with floral notes and is derived from beehives in New Zealand.

Another option is the M&S Pure Set Honey for just £1.45 from Ocado. This honey is said to be harvested with care from M&S Select Farms and is ‘ideal for spreading thickly on morning toast’.

However, buyers have rated the Manuka Honey highly on the Melora website. One person said: “This is the nicest honey ever…. highly recommended.”

Another wrote: “Great honey, very easy squeeze bottle and good choice of flavours.” Some had slight hesitations, however. For example, one person said: ” When the bottle is nearly empty, just put hot water in, swill it around and drink. It’s lovely!” but added disappointment they have discontinued the cinnamon version. Another also said they did not get a 10% discount from signing up for an email discount, but the brand also states shoppers should check their junk mail.

However, most reviews were positive, as this shopper wrote: “Really good, great taste.”
