Minister for Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar reviewed the progress of agricultural power connections, implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and preparedness for uninterrupted power supply during the summer at a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Monday.
He emphasised the need for collective efforts to provide nine hours of free power to the agricultural sector and maintain 24×7 uninterrupted power supply for all other consumers.
As per projections, the peak power demand is expected to reach approximately 13,700 Megawatts, and the daily electricity consumption to be 260 Million Units (MU) during the summer.
He stated that the government sanctioned 44,336 new agricultural power connections, of which 22,709 have already been released, and directed officials to expedite the processing and release of the remaining connections to benefit more farmers during the summer season.
Under the RDSS, the government was actively implementing projects worth ₹15,508 crore with focus on smart metering, system augmentation, and infrastructure development.
