The Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, has now been loosely confirmed for the fall, suggesting we won’t get to play it on day one. Back when MGS4 first came out, I fell fully into the Metal Gear Online hole – at a time when online competition still felt relatively fresh and experimental, it was one of the most unique approaches to a multiplayer game I’d encountered, blending traditional tactical shooter elements with the overpowered stealth mechanics of the single-player mode. I’m eager to try the MGS Delta Fox Hunt mode, then, but it seems likely I won’t be able to for a while longer.
The Metal Gear Solid Delta release date arrives at the end of the month, on Thursday August 28. While the remade MGS3 Snake Eater campaign is certainly the biggest draw, I’m also very eager to try Fox Hunt. Early signs seem promising, and it could certainly contend for a spot among our best multiplayer games if it manages to pull off the distinctive blend of action and stealth games we’ve seen in the past.
In a new post to the Konami website, its developer now lists the Metal Gear Solid Delta multiplayer mode as “coming fall 2025.” My rigid way of thinking still considers ‘fall’ to begin in September, but, however Konami is defining the seasons, the fact Fox Hunt has a separate window from the main game suggests it won’t be available at Delta’s launch.

The page describes Fox Hunt as “an online experience unique to Metal Gear that utilizes the central elements of the base game – camouflage and survival.” The teasers we’ve seen show people in ghillie suits taking on soldiers wearing the iconic uniform of GRU’s elite Ocelot Unit, and says the mode is “based on the Sneaking rule from Metal Gear Online.”
Team Sneaking seems the most likely candidate, a mode that pits one stealth-equipped squad against a defending group of soldiers. This follows a discussion from Konami’s Press Start where Fox Hunt’s director Yu Sahara explained that the mode would “take camouflage and hide-and-go-seek to the next level,” with the team attempting “to make something unique that is more than just a shootout.”
