Konami’s upcoming Snake Eater remake is coming with its own, unique multiplayer mode: Fox Hunt. Already delayed from the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Fox Hunt has even more bad news for excited fans.
For some reason, the upcoming MGS multiplayer mode – which appears to be a sophisticated hide and seek game – will not have crossplay functionality for some reason.

The infuriating news came in the form of a Twitter post where Konami told fans that “cross-play between different platforms will not be supported” when the multiplayer mode launches later this year.
Fans have not taken to the news lightly with gamers already worried that Konami is annoyingly slashing the longevity of the multiplayer mode by splitting up its player base. With the Fox Hunt mode launching months after the single player title’s August 28th release date, the number of returning players will likely already be low.
“Well that’s severely disappointing, can’t imagine the player bases will be all that big on each platform and cross platform would’ve helped,” one fan said on Twitter.
“This is pretty much a death sentence for any multiplayer game releasing in this day and age especially for something like Fox Hunt which will likely be a pretty niche game mode,” another told the company.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s online multiplayer launched in the time before cross-play was commonplace, and that title suffers from small multiplayer counts. However, that title’s multiplayer launched alongside its single-player, but it still remains quite niche to this day.
Players are right: Fox Hunt without crossplay is a death sentence for the game. While the hide and seek game mode looks fun, the lack of crossplay will cripple its longevity for no reason at all.
Following the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta, Konami’s next big release will be the horror game Silent Hill F. That game is set for release this September, and aims to traumatise its fans. Very exciting.
