Metal Gear Solid Delta Producer Is Hoping to Remake MGS4, Rescuing It from PS3 Jail

Metal Gear Solid Delta Producer Is Hoping to Remake MGS4, Rescuing It from PS3 Jail 1

Earlier this year, Konami released Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the classic stealth action game.

Despite some technical hiccups, the project has been very well received, and it’s led many fans to wonder what could be next for the series.

We already know that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is in the works, which will collate several ports of the older games in the series, but what about modern takes on Kojima’s beloved franchise?

Well, it sounds like one candidate that could be in consideration is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

In an interview with Real Sound, producer Noriaki Okamura has shown interest in revisiting the PS3-exclusive entry. (Translated quotes via Metal Gear Network.)

Asked about what’s next for the team behind Delta, Okamura says they’re “still in the stage of figuring out” what their next project is.

“We might work on another remake, or we might try creating something entirely new,” Okamura says. “The Metal Gear series is basically a piece of video game history, it spans everything from pixel art to film-like presentation, so the ideal approach to remaking or representing each title is different. We don’t intend to apply the exact methodology we used for MGS Delta to every game. We want to consider the best approach for each one individually.”

He goes on to say he’s personally hoping for a remake of MGS4: Guns of the Patriots.

“The hardware of that era required some extremely unique design choices to get good 3D performance with the tech available, and MGS4 ended up with some pretty unusual code because of that… Bringing it over now would be a real challenge, I think.”

For fans of the game, which is still only available on PS3, it’s an encouraging sign.

The PS3’s hardware architecture makes porting to other systems very difficult, a sentiment we’ve heard repeated many times in the past, so a remake of the game might actually be the best way to get it onto modern machines.

Fans are also hopeful that MGS4 will be included in the aforementioned Master Collection Vol. 2, though again, porting a PS3 game to other systems is tricky business.
