In a new statement, Konami has acknowledged various issues with Metal Gear Solid Delta, and promises to fix them with an upcoming patch.
However, to the frustration of many on social media, there’s no nod towards the game’s overarching performance problems.
On PS5 in particular, the remake suffers from especially low resolutions as well as an unstable frame rate in certain locations. But it’s performance on the PS5 Pro that’s made headlines, with a lack of graphics options meaning that players are stuck with dodgy frame rate dips and a shoddy dynamic resolution, with Sony’s PSSR upscaler left to try and pick up the pieces (with questionable results).
So what’s this update actually going to address? Well, the focus seems to be on very specific crashing issues and gameplay-related bugs.
There’s no mention of when the patch will release, with the statement concluding: “We are actively investigating the cause of the above issues, but it will take a little longer to implement the fixes.”
Without wanting to add fuel to the fire, it’s worth pointing out that Delta has been developed by Virtuos, the third-party company that also launched The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered earlier in the year.
It took the developer over a month to improve that game’s performance, and even now, it still struggles to run smoothly. Frankly, our expectations for a fast turnaround on Delta updates are very low indeed.
