Metal Gear Solid Delta Passes Impressive Sales Milestone

    September 5, 20253 Mins Read

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater sold one million copies on its first day, Konami has revealed. There was a lot riding on the remake, given the beloved status of the original version and the absence of the series’ legendary creator, Hideo Kojima, from the new version. However, it seems like those challenges didn’t hold Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater back, as the game didn’t take long to pass a major milestone.

After initially revealing the game in 2023, Konami remained relatively quiet about it until late 2024, when the company started revealing more details bit by bit before ramping up marketing efforts in 2025. As leaks had suggested it would before Konami made it official, Metal Gear Solid Delta launched on August 28 on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Now, the studio has revealed the game hit a significant sales mark shortly after that release.

A September 5 tweet from Konami UK revealed that Metal Gear Solid Delta passed the one million copies sold mark on August 28, the same day it came out. At first, it seemed like the game was off to a slower start than that, as Metal Gear Solid Delta peaked at 19,634 concurrent Steam players on its first day, a far cry from the over 91,000 simultaneous Steam users that flocked to Metal Gear Solid 5 on its launch. That discrepancy suggests that console users make up the bulk of MGS Delta‘s player base so far, despite complaints about poor performance on PS5 Pro.

Even if the game hasn’t been quite the smash hit among PC players as some might have expected, its remarkable sales performance shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. As critics began releasing their thoughts, Metal Gear Solid Delta received review scores close to the original, reaching an 86 on Metacritic within the first few hours of the review embargo lifting, compared to the OG Snake Eater’s 91. While it may have fallen shy of its predecessor, that’s still quite the achievement, considering how well-loved the original title is among fans and critics alike.

Those early impressions were enough to assuage the concerns some fans had about MGS Delta without Hideo Kojima working on the game. Now that Konami has confirmed some staggering sales figures for the title’s first day, there’s all the more evidence that the series is doing alright in the post-Kojima era. Some controversy over the Collector’s Edition and the game’s performance on some systems remains, but overall, things are looking good for Metal Gear Solid Delta.
