Metal Gear Solid Delta collector’s statue is a ‘hilariously bad’ waste of money

Snake gets a budget makeover thanks to an expensive collector’s edition of Metal Gear Solid Delta, which has been described as ‘trash’ by fans.

Deluxe and collector’s editions are still commonplace in the modern gaming landscape, as a way to recoup development costs without hiking up the price of the base game to an unaffordable degree.

While these expanded editions are usually littered with DLC incentives or art books, the most expensive editions typically come with an elaborately-designed physical statue of some kind.

In theory, these same rules apply to Konami’s collector’s edition of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but there’s something awfully off about the physical representation of Snake.

Along with collectible patches and a SteelBook, the US collector’s edition comes with a terrarium diorama of the opening scene from the game, where Snake must recover his equipment bag from a tree branch.

However, as highlighted by Redditor 1AmChris2, the miniature isn’t exactly the quality you’d expect from an officially licensed item priced at $199.99 (£148). ‘The title sort of says it all,’ they wrote in the post, headlined ‘MGS Delta Collectors Edition is trash’.

The main bugbear is the look of Snake himself, with commenters comparing it to Chuck Norris, Joel from The Last Of Us, and most damning of all, ‘a figure you would get on a birthday cake’.

In response to the post, a user on ResetEra wrote: ‘That looks hilariously bad.’ Another, quite spectacularly, added: ‘That’s Flaccid Snake’.

According to the Reddit post, this isn’t the only problem with the diorama, as the figure doesn’t come with any way to attach the foliage surrounding the tree. ‘Luckily I have glue and stuff from minis I’ve made,’ they noted.

If the US edition comes with dollar store Snake, a Snake Elite Bust in the Japanese and UK collector’s edition looks far more like what you’d expect from a premium figure. However, it’s considerably more expensive, priced at £299.99 from GAME in the UK.

For anyone in the UK who wants the US collector’s edition without the diorama, the best option is the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Deluxe Edition on Amazon. This is priced at £89.99 and comes with the SteelBook, additional DLC, a keychain, a Fox Unit iron-on patch, and art cards.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is available now across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
