Konami has pulled Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD from the PS3 storefront overnight without so much as a brief warning. The news comes following the announcement of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 last week, which includes both titles.
As spotted by a number of users on social media, MGS Peace Walker on PS3, PSP and Xbox 360 have been delisted, alongside the 2014 digital release of MGS4. Quite why Konami would do this is anyone’s guess, as there’s no harming in keeping these legacy versions of the games available on older platforms; Master Collection Vol. 2 isn’t out until August, but anyone who is likely to play these games on PS3 or PSP would have probably bought them years ago at this point.
The inclusion of Metal Gear Solid 4 in the collection is huge news, as the game has been locked to the PS3 since its launch in 2008. Peace Walker has already been released in high-definition previously as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (it originally came out in 2010 for PSP), but it’s nice to have it available on modern platforms.
Metal Gear Solid 4 features a much older Solid Snake as he suffers from the effects accelerated ageing due to Fox Die, and sees him going up against Liquid Ocelot in a globe-trotting adventure that reunites him with many previous characters. Peace Walker meanwhile is billed as the true sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3, and follows Big Boss in 1974 as he operates Militaires Sans Frontières in Costa Rica.
