Martin Lewis’ radiator foil trick window hack reduce bills

    November 13, 20253 Mins Read

As the cold weather sets in, Brits are looking for ways to keep warm without breaking the bank – and one man has shared a clever hack he picked up from Martin Lewis that’s set to be a game-changer this winter

As temperatures in many parts of the UK are set to drop over the next few days, households across Britain are hunting for smart ways to stay cosy without watching their energy bills skyrocket.

TikTok user Sam Calver has shared a genius heating hack that could transform how you heat your home and save money this winter.

Revealing the money-saving tip he learnt from financial guru Martin Lewis, Sam explained: “I can’t believe I’ve only just found out about this central heating trick.

“All I seem to be doing is turning the heating up all the time, but I saw Martin Lewis talking about the radiator foil hack, and I had to give it a go. I grabbed myself some radi savers – actually really cheap and you get about five metres of it.”

“You just cut it to size, slide it down the back of your radiator, and it now reflects the heat from your radiator back into the room rather than seeping through your walls. It means you can have your heating on less and save a lot of money over time.”

The clip has racked up hundreds of likes, with countless people eager to test the method themselves.

One thrilled user shared their success story, writing: “I done the whole room – walls, roof – even the windows. I honestly know how the Xmas turkey feels sitting in its tin foil all day. Very warm, but very dark.”

Someone else commented: “It works well. Done it since the 80s. Also, put thick aluminium foil on the ceiling. The room becomes even warmer as you don’t lose heat to the flat upstairs.”

A third person chimed in: “People have been doing this for donkeys years.”

In 2022, Martin Lewis shared the clever heating hack on his programme, the Martin Lewis Money Show Live, recommending positioning foil behind radiators to bounce heat back into the room.

Although you can buy specialist radiator foil, Martin highlighted that standard tin foil does the job equally well at a fraction of the cost. That said, not everyone is convinced, with some suggesting there isn’t enough proof to support the technique actually works.

Nevertheless, numerous people have endorsed the trick on social media. Meanwhile, Martin also previously revealed another money-saving method – sticking cling film across single glazed windows to trap air and cut down on heat escaping.

This simple solution could also help tackle those irritating condensation marks that form when warm air hits cold glass.
