Shoppers should take advantage of the deal, which is coming soon
As the winter chill sets in and it starts to get stuffy indoors, people might want to consider one home appliance backed by Martin Lewis. There are plenty of options available, but budget supermarket Lidl is introducing one of its own.
The store will release its new Tronic Dehumidifier on Thursday, October 16, for £74.99. Lidl’s water-guzzling gadget comes at a time when homes are looking to save every possible penny.
Last year, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis said dehumidifiers are a savvy swap for drying clothes to keep bills low—and with the recent energy price cap increase, this advice remains truer than ever. While sharing the advice during an episode of The Martin Lewis Podcast, the broadcaster and personal finance expert described tumble dryers as ‘demon appliances’ regarding energy costs.
He went on to suggest that it could cost homeowners up to £1 an hour to run their tumble dryer in the winter. He said: “Many dehumidifiers have different wattages—the one I checked out was 200W. Once we know it’s 200W and we know that a kilowatt is 1,000W, which is how electricity is typically priced, we know this is a fifth of a kilowatt.
“And you pay roughly 34p per kilowatt per hour. A fifth is 7p, so you’re going to pay roughly 7p per hour to run a dehumidifier at 200W, assuming it uses full power the whole time.”
As of now, a kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity is priced at an average of 26.35 pence in the UK for households on standard variable tariffs, based on the Ofgem Energy Price Cap for the period from October 1 to December 31, 2025. This cost may differ depending on the region and supplier, and it is distinct from the daily standing charge.
Lidl’s website claims that its new Tronic Dehumidifier uses up 245W. An appliance using that amount of power over the course of an hour (using the new October Price Cap) would cost homeowners around 7p in electricity.
The Tronic Dehumidifier will be available in limited quantities, depending on stock in each store. It comes complete with two programmes, one for drying laundry and one for dehumidifying. The product has a 2.1L tank capacity and a moisture extraction rate of up to 10L. It has a small built-in window for checking the water level, a warning signal that alerts owners when the water tank is full, and overflow protection.
Shoppers can browse online before visiting their local Lidl to see what’s available. Also releasing on October 16 is a range of indoor and outdoor plants, thermal clothing for men, women, and children, as well as additional household items.
In other supermarket news, shoppers looking to save money and take advantage of major discounts ahead of Christmas may want to check out the remaining toy offers at Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, and Lidl. Some stores offer deals of up to 50% off big-name brands, while others feature a collection of toys that cannot be found elsewhere.
