Brooklyn Kilgard of the Marengo FFA was recently presented the Iowa Valley’s highest agricultural honor, the DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by Bayer Crop Science.
The annual award, established in 1947, honors the outstanding high school seniors across the U.S. for their excellence in scholarship, leadership and agricultural work experience.
Kilgard, daughter of Luke and Marcia Kilgard, of Marengo, received the award for her excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience.
Kilgard has served as FFA vice president, competed in many leadership and career development contests, attended state and national conventions, attended many personal development conferences, worked as an FFA State Fair grandstand usher, served many community service hours, and participated in the county and state fairs.
Kilgard was selected to be a member of state FFA committees and walked through the parade of champions at the state fair in the area of floriculture.
Kilgard will attend Iowa State University this fall majoring in agricultural communications.
As the winner of the 2024 Award, Kilgard will have her name recorded on a permanent plaque displayed in the Iowa Valley Agricultural Science Classroom.
Marcia Kilgard is the Agricultural Education instructor at Iowa Valley and the Marengo FFA adviser.
Bayer Crop Science is a longtime supporter of the National FFA Organization and has sponsored the DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award for the past 77 years.
