Addis Ababa October 15/2024 (ENA) State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Yasmin Wohabrebbi emphasized that improving the quality of export commodities is essential for boosting the country’s export trade.
The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) Academy graduated today some 85 trainees upon completion of courses in coffee quality evaluation and cupping, e-trade, as well as quality assessment for grains, pulses, and oilseeds.
During the occasion, State Minister Yasmin stated that the ministry is working to enhance the export performance.
Without a strong focus on the quality of export commodities, achieving export targets would be challenging, she said.
“Quality is critical for increasing export volumes and can position ourselves as competitive suppliers in the international market,” she said.
Today’s graduates play a vital role in this initiative, she said, adding their training will directly contribute to the improvement of export commodity standards, ultimately boosting the country’s export gains.
The minister also praised the ECX for its commitment to enhancing export quality through identifying trainees from targeted professionals in export sector.
ECX CEO Wondimagegnehu Negera underlined that the graduates received practical courses to enhance their expertise on quality of export commodities.
Moreover, ECX has been supporting the development of a modern trading system, ensuring that high-quality agricultural, industrial, and mineral products are available in the market.
