TRIGG COUNTY, KY — The streets of Cadiz, Kentucky, were packed on Saturday, Oct. 12, for the 48th Trigg County Ham Festival.
More than 200 vendors and thousands of people from across the region attended the event for great ham, live music, carnival rides, and even a car show.
The festival highlights ham and showcases the town’s strong agricultural background.
Black Soil: Our Better Nature was one of the many vendors at the festival supporting black farmers in Kentucky.
The organization partners with the USDA and local farmers, selling the produce they grow.
The group says they began seven years ago to highlight the disparities in black farming.
“It was obvious that the black farmers in Kentucky have been totally underrepresented and diminished over the years, and Black Soil’s mission is to bring black farmers to the forefront, bring their products out,” said Cleveland Smith with Black Soil.
