Ghana’s agricultural export could be at risk

President of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Davis Korboe, has expressed his concerns about Ghana’s export sector facing a significant threat due to the country’s inability to produce sufficient agricultural output to meet international demand.

Speaking at the 2025 Citi Business Forum, he pointed out that the long-standing neglect of the country’s production base has resulted in Ghana losing out on major export opportunities.

He cited a recent example where Ghana lost a $300 million food logistics deal due to its inability to supply the required agricultural produce.

“This year, for instance, food logistics gave us a deal of almost 300 million dollars, and the issue here is: do we have the produce? And the answer is no. So this is what we need to try and fix,” he stated.

Korboe emphasised that the agricultural sector is inherently high risk, requiring stakeholders to be deliberate and strategic in their approach to expanding production.

He stressed that passion and intention are essential drivers for transforming the sector and addressing the challenges that have hindered Ghana’s agricultural productivity
