Konami has confirmed that Fox Hunt, the previously teased multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, won’t be ready for the remake’s launch later this month. That release date still holds firm at August 28.
The Metal Gear Solid series has a storied history with “Metal Gear Online” modes, but Fox Hunt is a bit different. It’s more of a stealth-focused hide-and-seek experience exclusive to this highly anticipated remake.
Just expect the remade single-player experience at launch
While Metal Gear Solid Delta launches on August 28, a recent X post and website update from Konami confirms that Fox Hunt won’t be there at launch. Instead, it has a more general release window of Fall 2025.
Compared to how Metal Gear Online has previously worked, it seems like Fox Hunt will emphasize stealth and camouflage a little bit more. When Konami has discussed the mode, it has referred to it as a hide-and-seek experience. Some players have to sneak around the environment, camouflaging themselves in the terrain around them, while other players hunt them down as more generic soldiers.
From what Konami has shown, don’t expect Fox Hunt to play less like Battlefield 6 or Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Instead, it’ll be something more in line with Metal Gear’s typical single-player gameplay.
And as we wait for Fox Hunt, players will have some time to experience the remake of what is considered one of the best games in the series. Metal Gear Solid Delta is a remake of the adored Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, bringing the game forward to Unreal Engine 5.
And while Fox Hunt is making some major changes to the Metal Gear Online formula, Metal Gear Solid Delta seems like it will be an almost one-to-one recreation of the game it’s based on, just with a more modern coat of paint.
Not counting game collections, this is the first Metal Gear Solid game that Konami has released since 2018, so expectations are clearly high for Metal Gear Solid Delta and Fox Hunt. We’ll see if the remade base game and this experimental multiplayer mode can live up to those expectations.
