EUROPE: Slovakian wagon manufacturer ŽOS Trnava has modified 40 Lgs container wagons to carry bulking agricultural goods as part of a project which Slovak logistics company TT-Trans is undertaking for customer BDT Bulgaria.
Each flat wagon has been fitted with a wooden floor and end wall panels to enable the secure transport of bulky loads such as straw bales without risk of the cargo shifting or falling off. The conversion is designed to be reversible, and the wooden floor sections can be removed to revert to the original container-carrying configuration.
Delivery of the 40 wagons marks the second phase in a multi-year programme to refurbish and repurpose 201 older wagons for new uses; 141 were modernised last year, and the final 20 are to be converted in 2026.
ŽOS Trnava said the conversions demonstrate how older rolling stock can be given a second life, with ‘creative’ refurbishment offering a sustainable, cost-effective way to meet modern needs while making the most of proven equipment.
