British Gas shares two-second trick to slash energy bills

    February 27, 20262 Mins Read

British Gas has said customers could see huge savings

As the cost of living crisis continues to impact UK households, energy provider British Gas has revealed an easy trick that could slash your energy bills by as much as 10%. And it takes just seconds to do.

While many households seek out ways to save money, experts say there’s one minor tweak you can make – and next to no effort can deliver significant results. According to British Gas, the answer may lie with your thermostat. By lowering the temperature by just one degree you could lower your annual heating costs by 10%.

This adjustment takes literally seconds but can result in considerable savings throughout the year, with most people barely noticing any temperature difference. This week Ofgem has confirmed that the energy price cap is set to decrease from April 1.

The revised cap, which remains in effect until June 30 this year, means typical household energy bills will be reduced, mirroring a decline in wholesale energy costs. Nevertheless, while the falling cap brings positive news for millions, British Gas continues to urge customers to adopt proactive measures to minimise their usage.

Beyond the thermostat tip, the energy supplier recommends various other methods to maintain lower costs. These include:

    • Lowering your washing machine temperature to 30C – which could cut electricity usage by roughly 40% a year
    • Bleeding your radiators – you’re wasting money if they’re not operating properly
    • Turning off electronics at the socket instead of leaving them on standby – which could save households around £55 a year

A British Gas spokesperson said that “small changes can add up to a big difference.” When these simple habits are combined with April’s forthcoming price cap reduction, numerous families might discover some welcome relief in their monthly outgoings.
