THE former lead guitarist for the huge heavy metal band Mastodon has tragically died in an overnight bike crash.
William Brent Hinds, 51, was riding his Harley Davidson when a BMW SUV crashed into him near Boulevard, Atlanta.
The musician, who co-founded the band in 2000, was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive.
The Fulton County medical examiner’s office confirmed his death.
A medical report obtained by The US Sun reads that Brent Hinds suffered a “fracture in the left leg along with multiple lacerations and abrasions”.
Atlanta Police Department said: “Officers located an unresponsive male who was involved in the collision.
“The male appeared to be operating a Harley Davidson during the time of the collision.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the male was travelling West on Boulevard.
“The female operating the BMW SUV failed to yield while turning left and collided into the male victim who was operating the Harley Davidson.”
Brent Hinds founded the heavy metal band with bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor.
The group was founded in Atlanta back in 2000 – and held its original lineup until Hinds’ departure.
The band’s 2002 debut album, Remission, garnered significant critical acclaim for its unique sound.
Mastodon would go on to release a total of eight studio albums to date.
Brent Hinds left the band earlier this year in March.
The medical records add: “Despite resuscitative efforts, the death was pronounced at 21:28 hours.
“Medical, social, and circumstantial background information was unavailable at the time of this report.”
He was taken to the Grady Marcus Trauma Center when first responders arrived at the scene.
