Fans of the action-comedy series Twisted Metal, rejoice. The lead actor, Anthony Mackie, recently dropped a tantalizing update about the highly anticipated Season 2.
Mackie posted in an Instagram update that filming for Twisted Metal Season 2 had finally begun, where he will be reprising the role of the titular character, John Doe. The news comes off the back of a successful inaugural season, which drew plaudits for its turbo-charged action and dark comedy that secured its place as one of Peacock’s biggest hits.

Superman’s Anthony Carrigan Joins Twisted Metal Season 2 in Major Role
Anthony Carrigan has been cast in the perfect role for Twisted Metal Season 2.
Mackie posted a few behind-the-scenes pictures from the set on Instagram, including one with him and co-star Stephanie Beatriz (Quiet) sitting in their chairs, with name cards labeling their respective characters. Another image shared the show’s logo with the title “Twisted Metal 2,” which pointed toward the next chapter in this wild and chaotic world based on the popular video game franchise. Most intriguingly, perhaps, is one of the images that teases the return of the fan-favorite character, Sweet Tooth — the iconic clown with a twisted sense of humor hell-bent on wreaking havoc on the world.
Season 2 Promises New Villains & Bigger Action
Although very little has been mentioned as yet regarding the plot for Season 2, recent casting news has a lot of fans feeling pretty optimistic. Perhaps the biggest of the new additions to this new season is Anthony Carrigan, who is set to play Calypso, the main antagonist of the Twisted Metal video games.
Calypso runs a Twisted Metal tournament where contestants vie with one another through vehicle combat for a single wish to be granted by Calypso himself. As the casting choice was made, a lot of people have speculated that the series will move even more towards its video game roots and probably be looking into some of the darker supernatural elements that were in the original games.
Mackie’s update does suggest that Twisted Metal Season 2 will be more action-packed and full-on than its predecessor. Setting up from the first season, which put a stake in the ground for a post-apocalyptic world full of larger-than-life characters and explosive car battles, it is setting to be an even more intense follow-up. The introduction of Calypso nods toward a storyline that both pays respect to the source material and pushes the boundaries of what audiences have seen thus far on their screens.
