What are all the Metal Gear Solid Delta bosses? Every game in the Metal Gear Solid series has at least one iconic boss, but MGS3 arguably has the best ones of the bunch. We should point out early on that this guide obviously contains spoilers, so if you want to avoid ruining any surprises in this 20-year-old game, you may want to turn away now.
Knowing the order of all the Metal Gear Solid Delta bosses can make your adventure in the stealth game significantly easier as we can help you prepare for each fight. You can also get a glimpse of the boss rewards to see whether it’s worth jumping through the hoops to earn their unique unlocks.

Revolver Ocelot
Non-Lethal Reward: Animals Camouflage (removes hand shake when readying weapons)
Armed with his trademark revolvers stocked with 12 bullets, Ocelot has his minions stand down before facing off against Naked Snake. In this pistol duel, you need to use the environment to your advantage, shooting down the hornets’ nests on Ocelot’s side of the arena to buy yourself some time. In between shots, be sure to stay behind the cover of the large rocks and trees.
The HUD displays how many bullets Ocelot has remaining—when his clips are running low, use this window to blast a few shots at him. You can’t actually kill Ocelot, but you can make things awkward for him by peppering him with shots and sending some hornets his way. If you’re running low on resources, run to the right side of the map to occasionally find extra bullets and healing items.
The Pain
Non-Lethal Reward: Hornet Stripe Camouflage (can tame hornets and ward off hornets, spiders, and leeches)
There’s nothing quite like the sting of a hornet to ruin your day, and if you detest these flying bugs, you’re going to hate The Pain. Through the use of pheromones, The Pain commands swarms of hornets to slowly chip away at his enemies. If he spots you, he also won’t hesitate to throw a grenade your way. Fortunately, the battlefield contains a large amount of water, providing you with a safe haven whenever you need to avoid his pesky critters.
The hornets are The Pain’s main source of damage, but you can avoid all of these attacks by diving into the water. These bugs are also used to protect The Pain from damage, so don’t waste any bullets whenever he uses the hornets to form a protective shield. As you emerge from the water, you only have a short opportunity to blast him with your weapons. Once you’ve removed half of his health (or stamina) bar, The Pain will remove his mask, but the fight largely remains the same, so stick to the game plan until the job is done.
The Fear
Non-Lethal Reward: Spider Camouflage (high camo-index at the cost of stamina)
With his spider-like movements, The Fear can be difficult to target as he darts between tree branches. You’re going to need to equip your thermal goggles, as this will give you the best view when he’s moving across the terrain. Unlike most of the bosses on this list, you can’t hide from The Fear as he’s an expert tracker, even going as far as to taunt you if you attempt to camouflage yourself by blending into the environment.
The Fear fires arrows at you that remain on your body until you remove them, and he won’t hesitate to swipe at you if you end up too close to him. If you’re struggling to land shots on him, you can drop any poisonous food you happen to be carrying, causing the boss to lose stamina when he searches for a snack. You can also use a Fake Death Pill to trick The Fear into believing you’re dead, forcing him out to inspect Snake’s body. This is your chance to deal as much damage as you can, but be warned that you can only use this trick once, as he won’t fall for it again.
The End
Non-Lethal Reward: Mosin Nagant (tranquilizer sniper rifle)
Said to be over 100 years old, The End is a legendary sniper who can effortlessly blend into the environment to conceal himself. This fight spans across the three Sokrovenno regions, forcing you to move back and forth whenever he decides to change his sniping spot.
You technically can’t die in this fight; instead, you’ll be sent back to the prison in Graniny Gorki once The End depletes your stamina bar, restarting the fight from scratch. Check out our The End boss fight guide for a full breakdown on how to defeat this long-range specialist.
The Fury
Non-Lethal Reward: Fire Camouflage (reduces damage received from fire and explosions by 50%)
He’s so mad, he’s practically on fire. The Fury can move around the arena using his trusty flamethrower jetpack, allowing him to burn you to a crisp once he spots you running down the halls. His field of vision isn’t great, so if you keep your distance at either side of the stage, you should have plenty of time to land some shots. Try to aim for The Fury’s suit and avoid shooting his helmet, as he doesn’t take any damage there.
Keep an eye out for the explosive barrels littered throughout the stage—take advantage of them by waiting for The Fury to appear before you intentionally blow them away. Make sure you keep your distance before you set them off; the explosion can hurt you if you’re too close to it. Ensure you’re positioned in such a way that you always have at least two routes to turn to should The Fury suddenly appear.
The Sorrow
Non-Lethal Reward: Spirit Camouflage (Eliminates footstep noise, recovers stamina while choking enemies in CQC)
Undoubtedly, this is the easiest boss fight in the game, if you can even call it that. The Sorrow has arrived to haunt you in the form of a ghastly specter, slowly stalking you with his army of undead spirits. The amount of undead spirits you face directly correlates to the number of enemies you’ve killed during this playthrough, so if you’ve been trigger-happy, you’re going to be haunted by many soldiers.
Once you receive enough damage and die, you can revive yourself by going to the equipment menu and activating your Revival Pill. If you’re looking to speed up this ‘fight,’ you can manually drown yourself to see the ‘Snake is dead’ screen faster. To obtain the non-lethal reward, you need to reach the end of the river, then activate the Revival Pill.
Colonel Volgin
Non-Lethal Reward: Cold War Camouflage (Soviet enemies hesitate to fire at you when you face them)
It’s time to get your revenge on Colonel Volgin for what he put you through in the torture room. Though he may have the power of electricity at his disposal, you have expert-level CQC skills to strike him down. Volgin uses his electricity to create a shield, stopping any bullets from hurting him, forcing you to resort to melee combat. If Volgin catches you with his electric beam, he will sap an entire clip of bullets from you, so make sure to put away your weapon during this period.
You can catch Volgin off guard in the middle of his attack patterns by running up to him and using CQC to knock him to the ground. While lying on the floor, he’s vulnerable to your weapons, so take this opportunity to deal some headshots with any gun you have. Once you remove half of his health, Volgin takes this opportunity to activate a new set of powers, but he’s still open to the same tactics. Once he fires off some electricity, walk up to him and slam him to the ground, repeating the process until he’s dead.
Shagohod
Sokolov’s mobile nuke launcher, the ultimate weapon on wheels. The first part of this boss fight is mainly for show as you mow down any soldier who dares to stand in your path. Equipped with unlimited bullets, you’re free to pick your weapon of choice, as long as you get the job done. The Shagohod doesn’t become weak to your gunfire until after the second phase at the Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge, where you have to destroy the C3 charges. Once you do, the Shagohod’s mobility is greatly reduced, allowing you to deal some real damage.
With the Shagohod severely weakened, you can take it out by aiming for its two drill treads with your RPG, causing the machine to break down momentarily. Once both of the treads are electrified, aim for the middle of the Shagohod to remove its health. Aside from a few rockets that you can destroy as they’re flying towards you, the attack pattern remains the same—that is, until Volgin appears once again…
Colonel Volgin II
Just when you thought the Shagohod was destroyed, Volgin rears his ugly head to power the machine back up using his electricity powers. Thankfully, this fight is almost the same as the Shagohod battle, except this time you need to aim for Volgin when you break the tank treads. To maximize your damage output, be sure to switch to the sniper rifle and land some headshots to quickly take him down.
The Boss
Non-Lethal Reward: Snake Camouflage (offers a high camo-index no matter the environment)
The battle we’ve all been waiting for. If you didn’t think The Boss was worthy of her codename, she’s going to prove to you exactly why she’s so feared. A master of all forms of combat, The Boss is just as effective at long range as she is up close, forcing you to adapt on the spot as she dominates the fight.
