The plans have been proposed by Sam Blackwell, a village landowner and operator of family-run Farmhouse Fuels Biomass.
The planning application seeks permission for a building to store woodchip, logs, and agricultural machinery, and office space at White Gates Farm.
The site forms part of a larger 14-acre agricultural holding.
Farmhouse Fuels Biomass has been operating at White Gates Farm, on land west of Coggeshall Road, since 2015 – evolving from a biomass-based venture established in 2009.
The business supplies biomass fuel and timber products and now aims to diversify into native broad-leaved tree sapling cultivation.
The application says: “The proposed development will support essential activities, including the secure storage and processing of timber and biomass products, the housing of agricultural machinery, and the expansion of the business into tree sapling cultivation — an activity that contributes to both agricultural diversification and environmental sustainability.
“It will continue to support the rural economy, potentially create part-time employment opportunities, and reinforce the long-term viability of a local family business.
“It represents an efficient and sustainable use of land that is both agriculturally justified and environmentally responsible.”
Braintree Council will rule on the application.
