Wales-based agricultural broker FUW Insurance Services has launched a new account executive academy.
The 18-month programme involves monthly training sessions focused on the responsibilities of an account executive, supplemented by experiences such as on-farm visits and opportunities to engage directly with insurer partners.
There are currently six participants, who were all selected following an internal selection process.
The programme commenced with a training session at the Swansea office of ERS, a UK motor insurer.
Participants had the chance to build networks with ERS staff and underwriters, gaining insights into the insurer’s product offerings and the insurance landscape.
Karen Royles, who was appointed as FUW’s first female executive director in November 2024 and provides operations and sales support, said: ”As a business, we have already seen huge success with internal promotions and remain committed for that trend to continue.
”This academy will therefore provide an invaluable opportunity to nurture staff’s knowledge, skills and confidence, that will hopefully create a clearer progression path – with benefits for the business and our customers.”
Challenges
This comes after farmers voiced their anger about changes to inheritance tax. From 6 April 2026, the full 100% relief from inheritance tax will be restricted to the first £1m of combined agricultural and business property.
Farmers also face various threats that could leave them susceptible to financial loss, such as fires and rural crime.
Initiatives like the account executive academy aim to prepare professionals for emerging challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector.
Ann Beynon OBE, chair at FUW, said: ”The academy’s launch further demonstrates our devotion to cultivating a culture of excellence that delivers exceptional value and expertise for our company and our clientele.”
