A Metal Gear Solid Game Was Delisted From the Xbox Store

    February 17, 20264 Mins Read

Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami has seemingly delisted an iconic entry in the series from the Xbox Store, as 2011’s HD version of Peace Walker is no longer available to purchase. The fifth installment in the Metal Gear Solid series was first released as a PSP exclusive back in 2010, before making its way to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which launched in North America and Japan in 2011. But as Konami gears up to re-release Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker once again, it has begun removing the original title from select storefronts.

Although it has been over a decade since Konami released a new mainline entry in the Metal Gear Solid series, the franchise is far from dead. Last year, the publisher released Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the iconic 2004 title that stayed true to the original story, bringing it to modern-day consoles with updated visuals, new accessibility options, general gameplay improvements, and more. The studio has also been focusing on bringing other older entries in the Metal Gear Solid series to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via new Master Collection bundles, with the second volume set to arrive later this year.

After recent teases, Ubisoft officially confirms Operation Silent Hunt for Rainbow Six Siege, bringing with it the iconic character, Solid Snake.

During a new State of Play event last week, Konami finally announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2, which will finally free Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from its PlayStation 3 exclusivity, as well as bring Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker to modern-day consoles and PC. However, it looks like Konami has now begun delisting Peace Walker from certain platforms, as the 2011 HD version of the title has seemingly been removed from the Xbox Store. It was previously available on Xbox 360 and newer consoles via backwards compatibility, but is no longer available on either the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store.

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as publishers often use this tactic to direct players to the newer version of a game, but it’s disappointing news for those who prefer to play the original versions of a game. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2 is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on August 27, 2026, but players may be wary of the second Master Collection after the first launched with numerous bugs and performance issues. While Konami has released multiple updates to Volume 1, the unique PS3 code tied to Metal Gear Solid 4 has long been one of the main reasons the title never left the platform, so fans are likely going to be going into Volume 2 very cautiously.

While it looks like Volume 2 will once again preserve the included titles to the best of Konami’s ability, one feature that will be missing from Metal Gear Solid 4 is its online multiplayer component. The original 2008 title shipped with Metal Gear Online, a 16-player multiplayer mode with a variety of game modes to jump into. Sadly, despite Konami bringing back Metal Gear Solid 3‘s multiplayer for the remake, it does not intend to give Metal Gear Solid 4 the same treatment. “METAL GEAR SOLID 4: Guns of the Patriots – Master Collection Version of the Patriots does not include METAL GEAR ONLINE,” reads a statement on Konami’s website.

Alongside the reveal of Master Collection Volume 2, Konami also released a new update for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1. The patch brought about some significant changes for the titles included in the bundle, including new texture packs, new resolution settings, support for Nintendo Switch 2, bug fixes, and much more.
