2024 Dominion Energy Charity Classic: Prize Money Breakdown & Winner’s Payout

    October 20, 20243 Mins Read

Jerry Kelly clinched a thriller last week in Dallas. And with it, he received the title of champion as well as a cut of $315,000 from the total prize purse at the SAS Championship. However, the action has, since then, moved on to Westhampton where the 2024 Dominion Energy Charity Classic is taking place. Yes, it’s the start of the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs. But here’s a question; Is the glory all that is being awarded to the champion or are there any monetary benefits as well?

If you’re talking about the dollar bills, then simply speaking, Yes, there would be. The Dominion Energy Charity Classic, as per PGA Tour Hq and the standard distribution chart, will award a cut of $350,000 to its champion. And it will be done so from the total purse of $2.3 million. The runner-up, meanwhile, will be awarded a cut of $184,800.

If you’re wondering whether the PGA Tour Champions event provides world ranking points to its winner, then ‘No’, it doesn’t. Instead, the tournament does provide points on the Charles Schwab Cup Standings, which are converted from the dollar bills that the golfers receive. Till the SAS Championship, each dollar was converted to one point. However, the playoffs work differently.

The three events including the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, the Simmons Bank Championship, and the Charles Schwab Cup Championship provide 2 points for a dollar instead of the usual figure of one. And after the ongoing tournament crowns its winner on October 20, Sunday, only the top 54 on the standings will move to the next playoff event at Pleasant Valley Country Club.

On the other hand, not all the 54 athletes will be able to make it to the Charles Schwab Cup. For only the top 36 athletes on the Standings will tee off at the PGA Tour Champions season finale on November 7. Well, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic seems pretty important now, doesn’t it, since it kicks off the final leg of the senior men’s circuit? Ken Duke would agree!

The 55-year-old professional had started off Saturday’s play at T8. However, his scintillating 6-under 66 on the second day of play helped him gain a single-shot lead before teeing off on Sunday. How did he do so? Interestingly, the American athlete took to card a total of seven birdies while scoring just a single bogey at the par-4, 7th hole. If he does emerge victorious, then it would be the golfer’s second win on the circuit, the first of which came back in 2023.

That’s not all. If he does win the event, then the golfer will be able to climb up 20 spots on the Charles Schwab Cup standings to claim the ninth spot for himself. He will be doing so with a projected point tally of 1,412,338.000 that came about owing to his 700,000, double the cut being offered as the monetary benefit. But will he be able to claim it? The fans can only hope so!
