As had been rumored for quite some time now, Konami has officially unveiled Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2 with a new port of Metal Gear Solid 4. Previously a PS3 exclusive released all the way back in 2008, the game has been stuck on Sony’s now ancient console with seemingly no hope of ever leaving the confines of that shiny black box. Thankfully, you won’t need to dig up a decaying console to play it.
Master Collection Volume 2, which is set to release on August 27th, 2026, on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 will also come packed with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The PSP co-op spin-off that eventually was included in the HD collection, Peace Walker is a fun little diversion from strictly solo stealth action that plays a weirdly large role in the overall lore of Metal Gear. It was cumbersome on Sony’s handheld thanks to having only one analog stick, but the HD port included online support and smoothed out most issues.

As a bonus, this newest collection will also include a port of the Game Boy Color exclusive “Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel.” Possibly the most overlooked game in the series, it hearkened back to the classic Metal Gear 1 and 2 overhead style and remixed elements of Metal Gear Solid’s story. It’s not canon to the franchise, but it’s still a remarkably fun game that every fan should experience.
With these games, the only titles possibly left for another collection would be Portable Ops and the Metal Gear Acid titles. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see those, but at least Konami isn’t leaving Metal Gear’s past to rot in a vault somewhere.
