MOFA receives agricultural products, tractor for Farmers Day

    December 1, 20253 Mins Read

A Ghanaian-based agro-chemical company, BonAgro, has presented over GH¢400,000 worth of agricultural products and machinery to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) towards the 41st Farmers Day celebration to be held in the Volta Region.

The agricultural products include over GH¢100,000 worth of agro-chemicals and knapsack sprayers to be distributed across all districts in the country and a 2025 LOVOL tractor with 60 horsepower valued at GH¢300,000.

This year’s Farmers Day is scheduled to be held on Friday, December 5.

At a ceremony in Accra, the Country Manager of BonAgro, Victor Nchonah, said the annual gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

He said the objective this year was to go beyond the usual donations and support mechanised farming, adding that the donation of the items was a testament to the company’s dedication to the farming community in the country.

He also indicated that they were ready to support farmers with agricultural machines such as tractors, combined harvesters and planters, and be a supplier of agricultural machinery should the government express an interest in importing them.

“BonAgro, being representative of LOVOL, we are available and ever ready to supply agricultural machines,” he said.

    Support farmers

Mr Nchonah added that the “Feed Ghana” initiative had inspired the company to go beyond its normal donations and provide a more significant support this year.

He also reiterated the company’s commitment to support the well-being of farmers, stating that a sound mind was essential for effective farming.

He said the company would continue to provide farmers with the necessary tools and relevant support to make farming easier and more productive.

Additionally, the country manager introduced a new and human-friendly pesticide called “last show” registered with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drugs Authority as part of the items donated to help farmers maintain a pest-free home and mind.

He said the product was designed to eliminate common household pests like cockroaches, providing farmers with the peace of mind both at home and on the farm.

    Distribution

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, thanked the company for supporting this year’s Farmers Day and said the celebration was to motivate farmers to put in their best to contribute to attaining food security in the country.

He promised to ensure that the items donated would get to the farmers and not be diverted anywhere.

For the tractor, he said, it would be presented to one of the awardees at the event.

He said the government was committed to positioning the country to produce enough food to meet domestic needs and also generate surplus for export.

“We want to make sure that Ghana is positioned to produce sufficiently to feed the Ghanaian people and even export to the outside world,” he said.

Mr Opoku also encouraged farmers to support BonAgro by patronising their products to grow the business and enable them to provide more innovative solutions for the country’s agricultural sector.
