PETALING JAYA: Firefighters battled for almost 12 hours to put out a blaze after a lorry transporting metal oxide caught fire on the Elite Expressway.
Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said a distress call was received at about 9.25pm on Saturday.
“A total of 23 firemen from three fire stations were deployed to the scene.
“The vehicle was 80% burnt when firemen arrived at the scene,” he said in a statement.
He said the blaze was fully put out by 9.25am yesterday.
Ahmad Mukhlis said they were also moving the vehicle to the side of the road by pushing it.
“We could not use an excavator as the vehicle is transporting highly flammable material.
“The metal friction between the excavator and the lorry could lead to a spark,” he added.
