Metal Technology: Enhancing education for the next generation with its Passive House glazing solutions

St Columba’s RC and Woodmill High Schools, Fife

Metal Technology’s Passive House range of windows, doors, and curtain walling is making a significant impact across education and student accommodation projects throughout the UK and Ireland, offering exceptional thermal insulation and airtightness.

Notably, the company’s Passive House solutions played a key role in the design and delivery of the world’s largest Passive House education project – St Columba’s RC High School and Woodmill High School in Fife, Scotland.

Metal Technology provides proactive technical expertise and support throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring each Passive House system integrates seamlessly into the building’s energy and design strategy. This collaborative approach has made the company a valued partner to fabricators, developers, contractors, and architects alike.

Continuing to lead the way in Passive House education, Metal Technology’s Passive House products featured across a series of recently completed facilities, including Currie Community High School in Edinburgh, Drumgeith Community Campus in Dundee, Monifieth Learning Campus in Angus, and Perth High School.

Built to the rigorous Passivhaus standard, the new £65 million Currie Community High School in Edinburgh provides 1,000 student places across three floors of bright, healthy, and inspiring learning spaces. Alongside state-of-the-art teaching blocks, the school features health and fitness facilities including a swimming pool, a café, outdoor play areas, a sensory garden, and public allotments – establishing a true community hub. Delivered by Kier for the City of Edinburgh Council, the facility consumes up to 70% less energy than a traditional school, significantly reducing its environmental impact and providing a sustainable, future-ready environment for students and the wider community.

The installation of Metal Technology’s System 5-45 Passive House Tilt & Turn Windows by Avtek contributed to Passivhaus certification by delivering optimal energy efficiency and interior comfort.
