Chris Eubank Jr’s dad makes retirement demand ahead of Conor Benn rematch

    November 7, 20254 Mins Read

Eubank Jr and Benn will renew hostilities next week, but the former’s father has called for his beloved son to hang up the boxing gloves once and for all

Chris Eubank Jr has been told by his father to retire just over a week before he faces long-time rival Conor Benn for a second time.

The boxing stars will renew their rivalry on November 15 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – seven months after their first encounter in north London. Eubank Jr went on to hand Benn the first loss of his professional career after scoring a razor-thin decision victory in.

Eubank Jr and Benn committed to an immediate rematch – which was initially set for September 20. However, the son of boxing legend Chris Eubank Sr plunged the highly-anticipated sequel into doubt after claiming he would not be ready for the September clash. That said, the two teams were eventually able to agree on a date.

The first showdown was marred by controversy after Eubank Jr slapped his adversary with an egg in the build-up and had also missed weight just a day before fight night. The Brit’s father also grabbed the headlines after he called for the bout to be scrapped, only to shock the boxing world by turning up to the fight alongside his son.

With the pair set to lock horns again after their gruelling 12 round war back in April, the sequel promises to be yet another all-timer. At 36, many fans are wondering how many more gruesome battles Eubank Jr can endure. The boxer’s father has even called for his beloved son to retire.

That is according to Eubank Jr himself, as he told Good Morning Britain. “My father wants me to retire. He does not want me to continue on in this sport. He knows how dangerous it is, but he will be there supporting me on the night. The relationship has gotten a lot better than it was over the last few years.”

He added: “We pretty much had no contact for the last four years and we kind of came together on that night as father and son and it was a special moment, and from that, we have been rebuilding slowly. We are not perfect, we have still got a long way to go. We have still got a few things to work on as father and son, but we are going to get there.

Both Eubank Jr and Benn recently met as the pair sat down for an interview on DAZN, discussing their impending rematch. “This is who I am,” Eubank Jr said to Benn. “I’m uncensored, I’m unfiltered. If I see something and I don’t like it or I don’t agree with it, I point it out. So do you. I just think I have a more refined way of speaking and putting my point across. You think I’m a p****, that’s okay. I’ve been called a lot worse by a lot more people…So we’re here now. We’re fighting in two months.”

He added: “I decided that I didn’t want to fight on September 20th because you did. ‘Alright, this kid wants to fight Sept. 20th, so you know what, we’re not going to do it.’ I don’t give a damn when this kid wants to fight, we’re going to fight when I want to fight — I won. I don’t have to march to the beat of these people.”

When is Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr II?

The 12-round middleweight rematch is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 15. It will once again be held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London. Official times are yet to be confirmed – but it is likely that the undercard will begin at around 5pm UK time.

In the main event, the ringwalks will likely take place at around 9:50pm UK time. The first clash was shown on DAZN PPV for a price of £19.95, but full broadcast details will be confirmed in the near future.
