The Block’s Scott Cam set to ‘swim with sharks’ in Channel Nine’s bizarre new reality series alongside Ariana Titmus as she announces her retirement from swimming

    October 15, 20254 Mins Read

The Block host Scott Cam has signed on to star in a bizarre new reality series that will see the 62-year-old risking life and limb in a show called Shark!

Announced at Nine’s Upfronts on Wednesday, the hair-raising format will be filmed in the notoriously shark-infested waters of the Bahamas.

Cam will be joined by Ariarne Titmus, who announced her retirement from swimming on Thursday, alongside four unnamed celebrities, in a set of ‘challenges’ that will bring them head-to-head with predators of the deep.

The series will be hosted by former Navy diver Paul de Gelder, who survived an attack by a bull shark in Sydney Harbour in 2009.

De Gelder will guide the stars through ‘shark challenges’ that, according to the synopsis, ‘escalate in intensity’ with each episode.

These will include taking to the waters in a protective cage to an open sea swim, where the contestants will share the waters with ‘one of the most aggressive of all sharks’.

The show will make a return to screens for de Gelder, who starred in his own Discovery series this year, How To Survive a Shark Attack.

It comes after The Block host Scott Cam was almost reduced to tears this week after the Blockheads paid him a heartwarming tribute.

Tuesday night’s episode saw something of a role reversal, with the contestants summoning the long-serving Nine star to Scotty’s Sawmill.

‘I’ve literally just been told there’s a surprise for me in my sawmill and I genuinely have no idea what it is,’ Scott said as he made his way to the mystery meeting.

Upon entering the workshop, he was greeted by the current cast, who were assembled with smiles on their faces.

‘What are we doing?’ Scott asked. ‘Am I going to get some feedback?

Appointed spokesperson Sonny stepped up to deliver a speech that threatened to make Scotty choke up.

‘Scotty, what a pleasure to be standing up here in your place,’ Sonny began.

Cam will be joined by swimming champ and Olympian Ariarne Titmus, alongside four other, as yet unnamed celebrities, in a set of 'shark challenges' that will bring them head-to-head with predators of the deep. (Pictured)

‘Who would’ve thought in 11 and a half weeks that we have been here we’ve not only built a whole house, but we get the opportunity to take your place in front of the camera.

‘Don’t worry mate, I won’t get too comfortable.’

Sonny then thanked Scott for his even-tempered approach to dealing with the renovators.

‘For all of us that stand here in front of you, and no doubt the previous Blockheads, you’ve been so supportive and it’s not often that you get any thanks,’ he said.

‘All that we seem to do is whinge about our scores, ask for more money, bicker between ourselves and generally be a thorn in your side, so today we get to say thanks.’

Sonny then remarked on Scotty’s child-like glee at using the Wood-Mizer portable sawmill in the workshop, before revealing that the cast had banded together to give Scotty one of his own.

‘We’ve all come down here at one stage and found you tinkering away on the saws and the Wood-Mizer,’ he said.

As everyone gathered around Scotty’s new toy, he was also quick to heap praise on the 2025 cast members.

‘I’ve been at Channel Nine for 26 years and you guys have been my best,’ he said.

‘You can go to the ads now before I cry.’
