It was reported last month that one of the founding members of a popular American heavy metal band was killed in a motorcycle crash.
Now, police have provided the public with more details about the crash.
Atlanta News First reports that 51-year-old Brent Hinds — the former guitarist of Atlanta, Georgia-based Mastodon — was found at fault by police for the crash that occurred on the night of Aug. 20.
Cops initially stated in their preliminary report that the driver of the SUV that collided with Hinds failed to yield while making a left turn at an intersection, Atlanta News First explains.
However, Blabbermouth.net adds that a newly released crash reports states Hinds was going between 63 and 68 miles-per-hour at the time, about twice the speed limit at the crash site. Police also relied on video of the intersection that they say “clearly depicts” what occurred, as well as the testimony of two witnesses who spotted Hinds “driving fast.”
Billboard reported earlier in the year that Hinds and the other Mastodon members had parted ways after about 25 years together. Hinds later claimed via social media that he had been kicked out of the band.
According to Hinds’s obituary, he is survived by his mother, father, stepmother, stepsister, nephew, niece, “and many cousins, extended family, friends, and fans.”
