The Metal Gear series is one of the few franchises that remains a pop culture phenomenon years after its final entry, with creator Hideo Kojima’s last contribution to the franchise being 2015’s The Phantom Pain. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is one of the most beloved entries in the series, and the new Metal Gear Solid Delta remake brings the 2004 classic back into the spotlight, losing none of what made the original great in the process. Metal Gear Solid Delta takes one of the best stealth games ever made and remakes it with new PC builds and consoles in mind, offering a whole new way to enjoy this iconic adventure. Chronologically speaking, Delta is the first game in the series, and it sees you play as a young Naked Snake as he goes on a classified mission, Operation Snake Eater, to sabotage a superweapon.
Everything you’ve come to know and love about the bizarre world of Hideo Kojima’s games is present in Metal Gear Solid Delta, from the brilliant stealth-focused combat to the political narrative sprinkled with strange characters and melodramatic cutscenes. It’s a delicate balance that only Metal Gear Solid seems to have perfected, and it remains uniquely interesting decades later.
It’s no surprise, considering how faithful the remake is to the original (despite plenty of quality-of-life tweaks, like crouch-walking or better aiming), that Delta is a remarkable game.
