WATERFORD — For the fifth time in chapter history, following trips in 2014, 2019, 2021 and 2022, five members of the Waterford FFA Chapter recently advanced to the 74th annual National Land and Range Judging Contest, held April 29 to May 1 in El Reno, Okla.

Representing the chapter were Maggie Baldwin, Maddie Hansell, Payge Lane, Katelynn Valadingham and Gracie Hartline. The contest was sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts.

Participants learned how to evaluate surface and subsurface textures, soil depth, slope, erosion, permeability, surface runoff and recommended land treatments, including vegetative, mechanical, and fertilizer and soil pH practices.

While in Oklahoma and Texas, the team toured the Dr. Pepper Museum and Magnolia Market in Waco, visited Fort Worth to witness the famous Texas Longhorn cattle drive, and explored the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

The chapter extended its gratitude to the many individuals and organizations who donated funds and time to make the trip possible.
