Gration G. Kamugisha: Postes, Relations & Réseau

    May 7, 20252 Mins Read

    Mr. Gration G.
    Kamugisha
is Head of Investments at Unit Trust of Tanzania.
He is back to UTT as head of Investment Management after being outside the organisation for three years while attending a full time research program at Leeds University in the United Kingdom.
His research work focuses on Stock Market Development.
Prior to joining the Leeds University Business School, he played a crucial role in developing the capital market industry in Tanzania.
After graduating from IDM Tanzania, he started as a stockbroker with Orbit Securities Co.Ltd and was responsible for processing some of the first transactions on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE).
Mr. Kamugisha holds an Advanced Diploma in Certified Accountancy (upper 2nd class) from IDM, Tanzania and MSc-Finance (with distinction) from Strathclyde University, UK.
Throughout his career, he has been a significant contributor to the development of the capital markets in Tanzania like processing Initial Public Offers, advising a cross section of clients on how to exploit opportunities in the capital markets and writing professional articles in various local news papers.
Periodically, he has been a resource person to courses organised by the DSE and Capital Markets and Securities Authority, the industry regulator.
While at ORBIT, he was instrumental in facilitating the cross-listing of the first foreign company in Tanzania (Kenya Airways).
He personally initiated an OTC market for unlisted shares and was the first person to engage local authorities on issuance of municipal bonds.
In October 2004, Mr. Kamugisha joined the then newly established Unit Trust of Tanzania (UTT) as head of Investment Management.
At the UTT, he successfully participated in setting up the first two mutual funds in Tanzania, namely Umoja Unit Trust Scheme and Wekeza Maisha/Invest Life Unit Trust Scheme.
