Drones Deployed to Hunt Down Cryptocurrency Mining Sites in Kuwait

    April 27, 20252 Mins Read

KUWAIT CITY, April 27: The crackdown on cryptocurrency mining in Kuwait continues relentlessly, with authorities determined to apprehend all violators and pursue legal action against them. These campaigns are being conducted under the direct leadership and supervision of Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, who is firmly enforcing the law against offenders, irrespective of their status.

A ministerial source stated that cryptocurrency mining and the illegal use of the national electricity grid are considered serious crimes against the country and its citizens. The source emphasized that government directives strictly prohibit any leniency in addressing these violations, citing the severe negative impact on the electricity network, including excessive consumption and load shedding that could cause widespread power outages affecting residential, commercial, and service sectors.

The source confirmed that field operations are ongoing to detect and address violations, with 24/7 monitoring being conducted across all areas. Drones are being utilized extensively to aid in surveillance efforts, leading to the discovery of numerous violations on rooftops and in residential courtyards.

On Sunday evening, Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef personally led a new field campaign targeting several homes and illegal cryptocurrency mining sites. The source stressed that no region will be spared in the campaign against mining activities and that all violators will face legal consequences, with no exemptions. Notably, the brother of a former official was among those arrested for violating the law.

Meanwhile, sources at the Ministry of Electricity revealed that over 1,000 sites engaged in cryptocurrency mining have been identified. The ministry continues to monitor unusual electricity consumption patterns and coordinates with relevant authorities to take swift action, noting that energy loads at these sites have increased by more than 50 percent.
