I believe there is nothing better than a honest and loud growl to start the day – and a new review. That’s exactly how The Spirit with “Songs Against Humanity” commences. At first, the music starts with a relentless double bass drumming with the pace of a Melodic Death Metal tune, but, in a sudden, comes the growl that makes it all come true with relentless modern Black Metal features. The guitar leads the way with an unstopable phrasing embellishing the sonic avalanche. In its eight minute length the track “Against Humanity” does a trip around Black Metal and Extreme Metal instrumental features. Pay close attention how the guitars fill in the voids with incredible and amazing riffs and bridges.
“Songs Against Humanity” has this spirit of mixing and blending a lot of Extreme Metal features into its tracks. That’s the hidden – not so much hidden, I used it because I tried to create some kind of drama – beauty of it. “Room 101” and “Cosmic Rain and Human Dust” showcase the ability The Spirit have to blend them all into their music, however, in a so subtle way that it sounds perfectly natural and organic. A characteristic of great bands, if you ask me. Finesse should be the perfect word to describe the instrumental ability The Spirit hold here. The instrumental beginning of “Death is my Salvation” is a great example of it. Its long instrumental intro makes the song one of the best of the album. The way the band goes adding parts and parts creating the perfect mood for a bridge or another instrumental moment is something one doesn’t find everyday. Another big hail to the way they make them sound so connected and organic. Organic is the eprfect term to explain the instrumental connection of this album.
And what to say about an album tittle called “Songs Against Humanity”? I have only one word for it: perfect! Some say Metal bands don’t have a philosophical verve but I happen to disagree. I have The Spirit and “Songs Against Humanity” with me to prove me right.
I’d also like to stress the honor it is to have reviewed all The Spirit full-lengths so far. With “Songs Against Humanity” the band keeps their incredible guitar work that we saw here with 2017’s “Sounds from the Vortex,” an album that interestingly was released by two record companies; 2020’s “Cosmic Terror,” their sophomore album which kept their cosmic thematic; and 2022’s “Of Clarity and Galactic Structures.”
The Spirit “Songs Against Humanity” will be released on October 25th via AOP Records.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
