Ex-BlackRock marketing exec joins FinTech Markets Recon

Investment insights FinTech Markets Recon has added former BlackRock marketing director Stephen White as a co-founder.

White will promote its investment research and insights platform for institutional and professional investors.

There are an estimated 150,000 to 180,000 institutional investor and wealth industry organisations globally, including pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, foundations and endowments, investment consulting firms, private banks, wealth managers, family offices and financial advisory firms.

Professional investors and asset allocators at these firms consume investment research and insights content from approximately 14,000 asset management, hedge fund and private equity firms globally managing $150 trillion in assets.

This creates a significant challenge for these investors receiving increasingly large volumes of investment content emails and unstructured data, and relying on manual web searches.

Markets Recon aims to solve this problem by aggregating and indexing this investment insights content for chief investment officers, portfolio managers, investment consultants and advisors.

Professional investors and asset allocators already utilise centralised investment databases for investment research and fund manager due diligence, and Markets Recon believes investment insights content can and should be presented similarly.

At the same time, Markets Recon also provides an efficient route to market for fund managers and investment strategists producing insights related to their funds and strategies.

Markets Recon launched in July this year and has grown quickly to become the investment industry’s biggest aggregator of investment research and insights by volume, offering access to over 25,000 whitepapers, research documents, blogs, podcasts, and videos from over 280 asset managers – and this is increasing every month.

Prior to Markets Recon, White was head of marketing at boutique asset manager Redwheel and previously enjoyed two stints with the world’s largest asset manager BlackRock – most recently between 2020-23 as EMEA head of product marketing for the firm’s active and alternative funds, and formerly in 2012-16 as a corporate communications director.

He joins co-founders Alex Nicholls, CEO, and Kyle Harris, chief product officer, who both previously worked at Savvy Investor, a platform for distribution of white papers and thought leadership to institutional investors.

“We are reimagining the investment insights experience should be like for the whole industry, scaling access to the broadest universe of diverse market views from asset managers,” said White.

“We’re excited by initial interest and believe Markets Recon will become an essential tool in peoples’ investment process.”
