    Hazen to retire from Knox County Auditor’s Office

    MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County commissioners honored Mary Ellen Hazen’s retirement from the Knox County Auditor’s Office with a proclamation recognizing her accomplishments.

    “Mary Ellen has lived the county’s mission by dedicating her life’s work to making significant contributions to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Knox County Auditor’s Office,” the proclamation reads.

    “The Board of Knox County Commissioners expresses its heartfelt gratitude in recognition of Mary Ellen’s selfless dedication and contributions to the Knox County Auditor’s Office, Knox County community, and employees of Knox County, Ohio.”

    Hazen started her career in December 1996 as a deputy auditor for the real estate division. Her retirement is effective Aug. 30.

    911 Operations Director Laura Webster reported that two trainees will be released for full duty in the next several months. Two others are on pace with their training. The center has three open dispatcher positions.

    Webster said communications during fair week went well with no issues.

    Sheriff David Shaffer said the annual jail inspection is set for early October. He renewed the contract with the Village of Gambier.

    The year-to-date report volume is 1,573, compared to 1,700 last year. Shaffer noted that there were many fraud reports last year.

    However, calls for service increased in 2024 to 7,400 compared to 7,353 this time in 2023.

    Miscellaneous

    •Approved a contract with Burcor Fencing LLC for the water and wastewater wellfield security fencing for $94,880. The following companies also submitted bids: Estherlee Fence Company Inc. – $149,100; Carson Fence LLC – $122,798; Lake Erie Construction Company – $139,625; and Modern Builders – $154,888.

    •Authorized advertising for bids for the improvement project on the north side of the Knox County Service Center

    •Approved the Star Ohio Bank Statement for General Fund Interest Earned in July 2024, for $14,773.23, and the Knox County Treasurer Depository and Investment Income Report for July 2024 for $177,905.43

    •Authorized the Retail Purchase Agreement from R. Dublin Chevrolet Acquisition LLC for the Knox County Engineer’s 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 for $65,521

    •Approved the Proposal for Professional Services from Evans, Mechwart, Hambleton and Tilton, Inc. for additional Engineering, Environmental, and Right of Way Services for the Cooke Road Bridge Replacement for $249,424
