Jun Zhu, professor of biological and agricultural engineering at the U of A, was inducted as a fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) at the society’s annual international meeting in Anaheim, California, in July.

Fellow is the highest honor bestowed by the society, a testament to Zhu’s exceptional work and dedication as a professional engineer during his 32 years as an ASABE member.

According to the society’s guidelines, induction as a fellow is reserved for individuals “Of unusual professional distinction, with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in or related to, the field of agricultural, food or biological systems engineering.”

To be nominated for this prestigious honor, individuals must be a member of the society and have at least 20 years of professional engineering experience.

Zhu said, “I feel honored and humbled to be selected as a member of the Grade of Fellow group. I am also grateful for being recognized as an ASABE member with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in my professional field.”

Department head Terry Howell Jr., also a society fellow, expressed the department’s immense pride for Zhu’s significant honor.

“Being named a fellow of ASABE is a wonderful recognition for Dr. Zhu’s career accomplishments; it signifies how his work has contributed not only to our profession but has also impacted our world positively. We are extremely excited for him,” Howell said.

Zhu also shared that this recognition not only celebrates his achievements but also underscores the excellence of the U of A Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department.

“I feel that this is an honor not only for myself but also for the department,” Zhu said.
