Two Hoosiers who “have made significant contributions to the agriculture industry and their communities” were recognized at the Indiana State Fair Thursday with the AgriVision Award.

The prize is considered the state’s highest agricultural honor, and this year’s recipients are John Baugh and Ed Ebert.

Baugh is the director of agricultural service at Purdue University and Ebert is a senior marketing director for the Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Indiana Corn Marketing Council.

As head of the ISDA, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch said Baugh and Ebert stood out both across the state and nationally.

“It was an honor to present John and Ed with the AgriVision Award,” Crouch said in a news release. “Their vision has guided the foundation of this great industry, and not just statewide, but nationally. We would not be where we are today without their leadership and commitment to supporting agriculture.”

Baugh has worked for over three decades in concert with state agencies to make sure agricultural laws are “based on science and common sense.” Baugh is also involved in agricultural education and has worked with Purdue and Vincennes to create joint centers of study.

Meanwhile, Ebert works on behalf of both the corn and soybean industries to help farmers sell their crops. The state said Ebert has flown around the world many times over as he lobbies Indiana produce to companies in and out of the U.S.
